Medicare Has Four Parts
Part A: Hospital Insurance - Covers inpatient care in a hospital, skilled nursing facility care, hospice care, and home health care.
Part B: Medical Insurance - Covers medically necessary services and preventive services including physician office visits, ambulance services, durable medical equipment, and mental health services.
Part C: Medicare Advantage Plans – An “all in one” alternative to Original Medicare offered by private insurance companies approved by Medicare. These plans include Medicare Part A, Part B, and usually Medicare prescription drug coverage (Part D).
Part D: Prescription Drug Coverage - Offered through private insurance companies approved by Medicare.
Two Ways To Get Medicare
1. Keep Original Medicare (Part A and Part B) and consider adding a separate Medicare Supplement Plan (Medigap) to cover the extra costs that Original Medicare does not cover.
2. Enroll in a Medicare Advantage Plan (Part C) through a private insurance company as an alternative to Original Medicare.
